Good afternoon Blues and welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Chelsea Fresh – where we take a look at the latest news, transfer rumours and anything else in between surrounding the club.
Please note – this will be an Eva and Costa free news zone for the foreseeable future. We don’t need any other news outlets banging on about this!
First up, according to reports this morning, club captain John Terry is confident of securing a year’s extension to his current deal at Chelsea. Terry has been left out recently by Jose Mourinho in favour of Kurt Zouma but Terry will be rotated back in tonight against Walsall and is expected to stake his claim once again and still see’s a future for himself at the club.
Next up, two players who have been mentioned over the summer are once again being touted as being potential January transfer targets for Chelsea. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Blaise Matuidi are back in the frame as targets.
Lacazette the flying French forward from Lyon would cost around £25 million and is expected to come in and seriously compete with Diego Costa (oops, I mentioned him!) for the number one spot. The 24-year old is seen as being more of a threat as Jose Mourinho isn’t confident in relying on Loic Remy or Radamel Falcao, the latter of which will have a chance to prove himself tonight.
Matuidi meanwhile is a player who has been watched by Chelsea for sometime as they search for more strength and versatility in the middle of the park. He has always been there as an alternative to Paul Pogba, who now looks set to join Barcelona.
Matuidi who is a France International regular is currently playing at Paris Saint-Germain, but the Ligue 1 side could be tempted by an offer for their 28-year old midfielder.
And finally, a name that might not be as familiar is yet another Ligue 1 star, defender Nicolas N’Koulou from Marseille. The 25-year old central defender is a regular for Cameroon making 63 appearances and came through the same academy that produced players such as Samuel Eto’o and Carlos Kameni.
Chelsea have a number of defensive targets being explored as N’Koulou joins the ‘not so’ short-list!
