Chelsea have been reportedly eyeing up a big-money transfer swoop for one of Italy’s top-prospect midfielders, Brescia’s ‘wonderkid’ midfielder Sandro Tonali, who’s still only 18-year old.
The Blues have now got wind of news that Italian powerhouses Juventus are now very much front-runners to sign Tonali, according to Tuttomercatoweb via talkSPORT. Despite all the increased interest from clubs in Italy, Chelsea and other interested club aren’t expected to bring in Sandro Tonali until next summer.
Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation and are ready to meet the valuation of around £20 million, which in the current transfer market feels like good value for money.
The youngster has caught the eye of a number of top clubs for his impressive performances in Italy’s Serie B, with three assists in eight appearances this season, whilst also being capped 10 times for Italy’s U19 side.
The 18-year old is said to have convinced visiting scouts that his performances for club and country will see him able to make the jump up to a higher-level and become a first team midfielder in the near future.
Chelsea are likely to lose Mateo Kovacic next summer as his loan expires from Real Madrid and there appears to be no deal in place for the Blues to sign the Croatian on a permanent deal – leaving a space in the midfield for Maurizio Sarri to replace. With the future of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas also up in the air, the Blues midfield line-up could look very different next season.
