Chelsea face a midfield shakeup by next summer, with Mateo Kovacic returning to Real Madrid, and the futures of Danny Drinkwater, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Cesc Fabregas remain in doubt.
However, a potential boost as Maurizio Sarri continues to reshape the Blues squad is that Arsenal’s soon to be out of contract midfielder Aaron Ramsey is reportedly ‘open’ to joining a rival such as Chelsea – according to ESPN.
The Welsh international, now 27, has reportedly seen offers from around the continent already, but is seemingly more likely to opt to remain in the Premier League and join a direct rival next summer, in what will be a painful blow to Arsenal.
The report in ESPN does name Manchester United as one of the two most likely options for Aaron Ramsey should he not be offered another new contract, with Chelsea the only club able to offer him the chance to remain in London and play ‘Sarriball’, a style of football that the midfielder would have no issue fitting into having spent his career under Arsene Wenger’s managerial style.
It’s unclear whether Chelsea would be tempted to make a move in January to secure Aaron Ramsey’s signature ahead of other rivals, but the question would be where would the Welshman fit in the current midfield selection? A move next summer when there are likely to be outs would seemingly make the most sense.
So far this season Ramsey has assisted three and scored one in the Premier League for Arsenal, despite knowing he’s currently heading for the exit door in the north London.
