Chelsea could be set to renew their bid to sign Daniele Rugani in the next transfer window with the club alerted to a potential stalling in contract talks between the Italian defender and Juventus.
The Daily Star via Italian news source Calciomercato say that there’s been little to suggest any kind of ‘breakthrough’ in the contract talks between club and defender, who has failed to cement a place in the Juventus starting XI this season.
Daniele Rugani failed to make the the squad entirely for the club’s 3-0 Champions League victory and has so far appeared in just one league and European fixture this season – both times the club won with clean-sheets.
The 24-year old could very well be the ideal replacement for Gary Cahill at the club who is very likely to seek a transfer away in January with his contract expiring at the end of the current season.
The report in the Daily Star states that Chelsea agreed a fee of around £36 million with Juventus in the summer for the transfer of Daniele Rugani but the defender was apparently adamant to prove his worth to the Italian champions – but boss Massimiliano Allegri seemingly views the Italian international a substitute right now.
Maurizio Sarri and Daniele Rugani both worked with each other while at Italian side Empoli and having seen how rejuvenated Chelsea are this season, it could be the ideal reunion in west London.
