Frank Lampard found the back of the net four times for his 151st goal in a Chelsea shirt as Chelsea romped 7-1 over a hapless Villa side at Stamford Bridge. Florent Malouda got on scoresheet twice for the Blues, with Salomon Kalou adding one to the tally also as Chelsea clinched a vital win ahead of next Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford.

It was Lampard and Malouda who got Chelsea off to a quick start. Malouda collected a layoff pass from Anelka down the left side and sent a low cross that a sliding Lampard converted for the opener after 15 minutes of play.

Villa showed commitment to winning minutes later when John Carew was left unmarked at the far post to tap in Ashley Young’s cross from the left to make it 1-1. The Blues would retake the lead three minutes before the half when James Collins took down Yuri Zhirkov in the box. Lampard coolly fired the penalty beyond a diving Brad Friedel to send the home side in 2-1 at the break.

After the half, it was all Chelsea and the Lampard and Malouda show continued. Malouda, who terrorized the Villa defense all day, received his reward in the 57th minute when Zhirkov found him unmarked near the penalty spot and the Frenchman volleyed it past the keeper for 3-1.

That would not be the end of the scoring or the penalties either. Three minutes later, Zhirkov would again be brought down in the box, this time by Richard Dunne, and Lampard stepped up to convert the spot kick again for his third. That goal also marked his 150th goal for the club, tying Roy Bentley and Peter Osgood for third leading scorer in club history. Super Frank would then eclipse that mark with a fourth goal in stoppage time as James Milner’s poor clearance fell to him and he stroked the ball home.

Before that, Malouda was the beneficiary of Lampard’s assisting as well when he received a Lampard pass inside the box and side footed home with his right for his 2nd goal.

Kalou would also get his name on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute, converting a pass from Nicolas Anelka for his first league goal of the season.
