Blues fans will certainly be intrigued to see the latest name being linked with a move to west London – Houssem Aouar. Not yet a household name in the world of football, but for those in the know, the 20-year old midfielder is highly-rated by Lyon.
The Daily Mail state that Chelsea have now joined London-rivals Arsenal and Spanish champions Barcelona in monitoring the Frenchman’s availability, and will continue to monitor his progress heading into the next transfer window and potentially beyond if he remains with Lyon.
In the report it’s stated that Houssem Aouar turned down the opportunity to move to Liverpool before signing his first pro contract with Lyon – so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jurgen Klopp’s side are also continuing to monitor the one that got away.
This season in Lyon, Aouar has been very impressive making 17 appearances this season and scoring five, while chipping in with four assists – three of which have been in the Champions League, in a group that includes Manchester City, Hoffenheim and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Maurizio Sarri and the Blues want to bolster their creative midfield options going forward, whilst also keeping a back pocket option incase Eden Hazard is subject of mammoth bid from Real Madrid or elsewhere next summer.
Houssem Aouar at still only 20 is considered as one potential creative incoming for the Blues – the player has been dubbed as a ‘high-energy midfielder’ and likened to former Liverpool and current Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
