Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of a midfielder already dubbed as a ‘wonderkid’ and who is also drawing the attention of rival’s Liverpool.
Exeter City’s Ben Chrisene made his first senior appearance in the EFL Cup last month, despite being just being 15, and is now a player wanted by Chelsea – according to the Sun.
Ben Chrisene has been invited to train at the Cobham training ground with Chelsea, with manager Frank Lampard keen to take a closer look at what all the fuss is about.
Liverpool had already seen Ben Chrisene up close with the teenager having spent time at Melwood, and it seems Chelsea want some of the same to entice the player to join them instead.
Of course Chelsea can’t sign Chrisene officially until next summer, but the Blues will want to put in the work now and hope their previous transfer dealing with Exeter for Ethan Ampadu will see them pip rivals to the midfielder’s signature.
Despite debuting in a 4-1 EFL Cup loss to Coventry, the Exeter manager Matt Taylor spoke, via BBC Football, gushingly about Ben Chrisene’s future prospects;
He’s going to play at the top level, it’s as simple as that.”
What that top level is for Ben, he’s 15 years old, I can’t tell you that yet. But I think he’ll play at a top, top standard of football.”
The previous youngest-ever player at Exeter was Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu.
