Blues fans will certainly be on the edge of their seats with the news from Italy that Argentinian international striker Gonzalo Higuain is said to be a leading target for Chelsea, with Juventus prepared to sell if they find a replacement for their goalscorer (via Calciomercato).
There’s little doubt around Stamford Bridge that a top quality striker is required in this summer’s transfer window – with Alvaro Morata falling short of expectations since signing last year, and Olivier Giroud despite impressing was never going to be prolific in-front of goal.
Gonzalo Higuain finished the season with Juventus with 23 goals in 50 appearances – while also assisting an additional eight goals for teammates on the way to lifting the Italian Cup and Serie A league title.
Calciomercato claim that Chelsea are the one club right at the front of the queue should Juventus sanction the sale of Higuain and even better news is that he could be available for around €70 million – which would seem like good value for money in the current transfer market climate.
Maurizio Sarri, the former Napoli manager, worked with Gonzalo Higuain until he was sold to Juventus, and could be a major pull for a striker who has yet to challenge himself amongst the Premier League elite. However, that is if Maurizio Sarri is appointed the next Chelsea manager, but right now Antonio Conte remains the manager in west London.
In his last season with Napoli whilst working with Maurizio Sarri the Argentine broke the Serie A record with 36-goals in a season in just 35 games.
Paris Saint-Germain with Edinson Cavani, Angel di Maria and Neymar would surely be an appealing option to play alongside his fellow south American attackers and the report in Italy also states that the French club are also in for Higuain this summer and will likely be monitoring what Chelsea do in regards to making a formal bid.
