Heightened transfer speculation in recent days has linked Chelsea to a surprising swoop for former Liverpool and current Barcelona star Coutinho [who is on-loan at Bayern Munich].

However, the news of the Brazilian potentially arriving at Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window has puzzled one Chelsea legend.

Former Blues and France defender Frank Leboeuf has had his say on the latest transfer speculation – with the World Cup and FA Cup winner knowing a thing or two about what makes a winning team.

In quotes taken from ESPN, Frank Leboeuf has questioned as to why Chelsea would need such an expensive addition considering the current options available;

I would have lots of question marks seeing him coming to Chelsea, to bring what?

We have young players, very talented, who are very promising. We have good midfield players with [Mateo] Kovacic and Jorginho, to organise the game.”

Coutinho’s performances once again this season with Bayern Munich have been good, but unlikely to be good enough for the German champions to turn their season-long loan into a permanent move.

Having enjoyed the best stats of his career during his spell at Liverpool, Chelsea perhaps believe that the now 27-year-old can replicate some of that Premier League form in west London – Coutinho scored 41 goals and 37 assists in the English top-flight.
