Chelsea are set to battle it out with the likes of Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan for the signature of the highly-rated young Italian international striker Federico Chiesa.
The 20-year old currently contracted to Serie A side Fiorentina has been impressing in his formative years, scoring 22 goals and assisting a further 17 in all competitions – including in Europa League competition.
Italian news source TuttoSport via This Is Futbol suggest that the Blues face fierce competition from Italy’s elite for his signature, but with Maurizio Sarri at the helm of an impressive start to the Premier League season, the hope will be that Federico Chiesa could view himself as an replacement for Alvaro Morata.
Chiesa broke into the first team Serie A side for Fiorentina back in the 2016/17 season and has since been a regular fixture in the side, ultimately getting called-up and capped five times to-date for the Italian national squad.
Chelsea fans will be justifiably wary of relying on a player such as Federico Chiesa as a major goal threat, with his stats so far showing he’s far from prolific for Fiorentina, but at the age of 20 the best is surely yet to come and playing around better players could see those goal and assist stats inflate even further.
While it’s not clear that Chelsea will indeed make advances in the January transfer window for Chiesa, there’s no doubt that if Sarri and co do indeed have him on the radar, they will be aware that the likes of Juventus and Inter are likely to come calling soon for a player with seemingly high-potential.
Interestingly The Metro reported back in August that two unnamed clubs failed in bids to secure Chiesa’s signature with £36 million being turned down – Fiorentina are said to be looking for around £60 million.
