N’Golo Kante has signed a new and improved contract with Chelsea, keeping him at the club until 2023 – a five-year contract which, according to the Daily Mail, will see the Frenchman earn £290,000 a-week.
Talk had recently drifted to a possible exit for the two-time Premier League winner, with Paris St-Germain showing interest in taking the midfielder back home, but the World Cup winner with France sounded delighted with the new deal;
I’m happy to extend my time with Chelsea, it has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come,’ he said via Chelsea FC.
Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about.’
I like the city, I like the club and I am happy to be here for more time.’
Maurizio Sarri was clearly delighted to see one of the first players on his Chelsea team sheet commit a further fives years to the club, in quotes via Chelsea FC;
N’Golo, for us, is not just an important player.’
I’m very, very happy with the new contract – very, very pleased for him. It’s very important news, I think.’
‘He’s very important for us in the defensive phase, but he is improving in the offensive movements. Now he has to improve in the last 20-25m. He can score more.’
Kante as the manager touched on, has been playing slightly more forward in midfield this season, with the arrival of Jorginho given the Frenchman more licence to push on.
It’s a subject of debate whether this new role best suits the reason the midfielder has risen to prominence with Leicester and now Chelsea – but Maurizio Sarri appears adamant the best could be yet to come.
