Two weeks ago, I had a full on case of the January blues. Chelsea were losing, not playing well, Ancelotti did not know where our next point was coming from and Roman had allegedly fallen out of love with the Champions. Oh what a difference a fortnight makes in the roller coaster life, of the fans, of the greatest game on the planet.!!
You could not write the script. This Sunday afternoon the Champions take on mid-table Liverpool. Two weeks ago this would have been a somewhat mundane affair with Chelsea probably squeezing a win. Now this game is massive. The travelling’ red micks’ will be furious. Their famous No. 9 has jumped ship for ‘one of the worlds great clubs’. Thanks Nando, talk about lighting the blue touch paper! I, for one, cannot wait to see this guy in a Chelsea shirt, he has pace, strength, is quality in the air and most importantly, he plays on the shoulder of the last defender, something we have been missing.
Tuesday night, against Sunderland, Chelsea were excellent. Essien and Lampard were back to form and Nic Anelka was sensational, playing in the pocket. Carlo was clever and tested the Frenchman, in this position, whilst pondering how to accommodate him along with Torres and Drogs. The answer was emphatic. Chelsea will line-up with Anelka ‘in the hole’ behind the formidable front two. I think this will be, arguably, the most frightening attack in world football! Bring on Sunday I cannot wait.
Slipping in the backdoor at Stamford Bridge this week was Brazilian defender David Luiz. Now, for those that don’t know him, we have signed one top quality defender. He is similar to a young Ricky Carvalho, with timing and position, rather than strength his key attributes. What he does add to the team is a ball playing defender with excellent distribution. I see Luiz and Alex as the future Chelsea central pairing.
My team for Sunday is Cech behind a back four of Cole, Terry, Luiz and Ivanovic. A midfield of Essien, Lampard and the ever improving Ramires, with a front three of Anelka, in the hole, behind Drogba and Torres. We will also have great strength on the bench with Mikel, Bosingwa, the unfortunate Kalou, Malouda, boy wonder McEachran and Bruma. That is a champions league winning team, you heard it here first!
As for the opposition, who cares what team they field, just sit back and drool over the best team to take to the Stamford Bridge turf ,ever!
