Chelsea are riding-high off back to-back Premier League victories, but Maurizio Sarri still wants to trim the squad before the end of August loan-transfer deadline – with midfielder Danny Drinkwater and striker Tammy Abraham reportedly two names prioritised for moves by the club.
The Daily Mail say that Danny Drinkwater is to be used sparingly under Sarri, featuring in the League Cup or Europa League only this season – but the club are hoping that a loan-offer can materialise. It’s unlikely that the England international who moved to west London for £35 million would want to step down to the Championship, but a move overseas could be on the cards seeing as Premier League clubs can’t do business until January.
Tammy Abraham made a huge impression while on-loan at Bristol City in the Championship, but failed to deliver for Swansea City last season – seeing the south Wales club relegated and the 20-year old registering just eight goals in 39 appearances with the Swans.
Aston Villa have shown interest in taking Tammy Abraham on-loan for the rest of the season, according to Bleacher Report, but the Midlands club are facing competition from clubs in Italy and the Netherlands – with Serie A side Sampdoria linked to the English striker.
Danny Drinkwater has, according to an article in the Sun, failed to impress Maurizio Sarri in the appearances the 28-year old has made for the Blues so far (including around half an hour of action in the Community Shield). Bundesliga side Schalke were linked to the former Leicester City star, but that interest has seemingly cooled.
Chelsea have already made big personnel outs this summer, with Michy Batshuayi leaving to Valencia, Tiemoue Bakayoko to AC Milan and Kurt Zouma to Premier League rivals Everton.
