Chelsea were minutes away from back-to-back victories against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, but it took a ‘world-class’ strike to deny the Blues three points at Stamford Bridge.
In what was a thoroughly enjoyable game in the late Saturday Premier League game, Chelsea showed they are contenders for the title this season, whilst showing an adaptability on the counter against a strong second-half showing from Liverpool.
The feeling lingers that Chelsea do need a proven goalscorer at some point in the near future, as much as Olivier Giroud works hard up-front, an out-and-out scorer would surely compliment Eden Hazard, who the Blues are relying to heavily on right now.
Chelsea Player Ratings vs Liverpool
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 7
Some very smart saves when required at Stamford Bridge against Liverpool. The instinctive, quick stop from Mane was top drawer. Could he be blamed for Daniel Sturbridge’s equaliser? It would be very harsh considering the distance and curl on the late goal from the former Blues man.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6
David Luiz – 8
Made a clinical off the line clearance from Firmino to deny a Liverpool goal earlier in the second half. Had a very strong game at home today which was encouraging to see.
Antonio Rudiger – 6
Marcos Alonso – 7
Had the chance to win the game with a last ditch header from a corner, wasn’t meant to be on the night. Made some nice tackles in an evenly-tested contest.
N’Golo Kante – 6
Mateo Kovacic – 7
Had a good game overall, had an effort blocked well by Liverpool and got forward when needed – subbed for Barkley though…
Jorginho – 6
Eden Hazard – 8
What can you say? Eden Hazard once again, twice against Liverpool in the space of four days! The angle on the finish, as well as the work-rate throughout the game – on a different level at the moment.
Willian – 6
Olivier Giroud – 6
Chelsea Player Ratings – Substitutes
Ross Barkley – 5
Didn’t show any kind of upgrade on Mateo Kovacic who he was subbed for – should the Croat have stayed on the pitch?
Alvaro Morata – 5
Victor Moses – 5
Had Pedro been available no doubt Moses wouldn’t have got any minutes today – didn’t have any bearing on the game.
