Chelsea have so far tested the transfer market waters with a bid to sign Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, but to no success a week into the window being open. Now, according to a report the Blues have ‘submitted’ an offer in the region of £17 million for Metz star Habib Diallo.
Diallo, a 24-year-old Senegelse international striker is Ligue 1’s third-joint top goalscorer with 10 in 19 and at a potential value of £17m, would represent a more modest budget option for Frank Lampard.
Lyon are seemingly holding out for an offer in excess of £40m for Demeble, while another transfer target, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, has a price-tag of £80m.
The Daily Mail take a report from France that states Chelsea have made a bid to Metz, who are reluctant to lose Diallo, but such a bid will test their resolve – the French club are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, and naturally won’t want to lose their top scorer.
Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud seems set to leave this month, which will leave Frank Lampard’s side one striker light – these new reports about signing Habib Diallo show that the club are working as early in this window as possible to secure a striker to work alongside Tammy Abraham.
It seems like a matter of when and not if Chelsea secure a new striker this season, whether or not Diallo is that striker remains to be seen.
