Chelsea are once again emerging as transfer suitors for Nice’s full-back Youcef Atal, who was linked to the club a number of months ago, before the ban kicked-in.
If the January transfer window is open for Chelsea, manager Frank Lampard is likely to move fast to secure new recruits to boost his and the club’s chances of making it back into the Champions League next year and in-turn strengthening their pulling power in the market.
Algerian international Youcef Atal played a crucial role as Nice finished seven in Ligue 1 last season, and with the French club recently being bought by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who was previously linked to purchasing the Blues – chances of a deal being struck could be made a little more straightforward.
Of course Chelsea still have to win their appeal in the Court of Arbitration to even be able to do business in January, but the report in the Sun indicates that the Blues are ready and have targets such as Atal at the ready.
The 23-year-old who mainly plays on the right will inevitably be seen as a long-term replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta who has endured a tricky start to this season, with fans starting to call for the experienced Spaniard to be dropped for academy product Reece James.
