Chelsea will be looking to bounce quickly back from a shock defeat to lowly-West Ham midweek, with an Saturday evening encounter with a struggling Watford side.
The Blues really need three points to keep ahead of the chasing pack and will sense that the Hornets will provide the perfect opponents to do that with – Nigel Pearson’s side have taken just one point from the last nine available, since the Premier League restart.
In the now normal video press conference (via Chelsea FC official), manager Frank Lampard spoke on his Chelsea line up vs Watford and ruled out two key players ahead of kick-off at Stamford Bridge;
“Fikayo is still not fit.” “He’s hopefully going to be training with us somewhere through next week. He’s doing a lot of work but in terms of the last bit to get him on the training pitch, it’s been tough.”
“Kovacic is going to be out of this game. He hurt his Achilles during the West Ham game and will miss this one, possibly the next one after that but hopefully it won’t be too long after that.”
Defensively midweek it was all a bit of a nightmare for the Blues, mistakes from a number of players led to miserable defeat. However, Kepa is set to retain his spot in goal, but there could be tweaks at the back, with Kurt Zouma and Emerson potentially coming into the Chelsea line up vs Watford.
Tammy Abraham could also find himself back on the bench, with Olivier Giroud set to be given the nod by Frank Lampard for the visit of the Hornets.
Christian Pulisic and Willian are both likely starters having impressed since the restart of the top-flight in June.
