Chelsea along with rivals Manchester United has reportedly been targeting a January transfer swoop for 24-year old right-back Elseid Hysaj, however according to the Daily Mail, he is instead set to commit his long-term future to Napoli.
Hysaj’s former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and a next step move to Chelsea might have seemed like a logical choice for the right-back, instead the report states that his agent Mario Giuffredi has green lighted talks with Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis for the Albanian to stay in Naples.
The Daily Mail carry quotes from Elseid Hysaj’s agent which all but squash any hopes that Chelsea have to sign a player who would have been seen as the successor for Cesar Azpilicueta;
We’ve been talking to Napoli for some time.”
In the next few weeks I’ll meet the president to understand if there are the conditions for a renewal.”
He has only two-and-a-half years left on his contract.”
Hysaj at 24, has already clocked up over 150 Serie A appearances and this season has played in all but one Serie A fixture for Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who currently sit second behind Juventus in the league.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is likely to want to shuffle his side up in January, especially so after remaining unbeaten this season and with the club having a real chance to lift some silverware.
The sides frailties in keeping a clean-sheet have been the main point of criticism from the Italian – recently telling his defence, via the Guardian, to cut out ‘stupid’ errors in the Europa League against BATE conceding a late goal.
