As the tide has begun to turn at Stamford Bridge, the Blues will take on West Brom midweek in Guus Hiddink’s 5th match in charge of the West Londoners.
Chelsea enter the match off of the back of a 2-0 triumph over Scunthorpe in the FA Cup. The match had several positive talking points, including the emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Englishman has found first team chances hard to come by this season, despite promises of playing time from Mourinho. However, Guus Hiddink in an absolute masterstroke, waited for Chelsea to gain the upperhand, and then felt comfortable to play the young midfielder in the second half. The game had begun to feel increasing pressure, as Scunthorpe was pushing for an equalizer.
However, Loftus-Cheek put an end to all of that when he arrived late into the attacking 18, calmly burying a cross from Azpilicueta. It was a finish of maturity, confidence and composure. It was even Frank Lampardesque.
The young Englishman will look to continue to fight for minutes under Hiddink as the Dutchman attempts to steer Chelsea back to the top four.
Furthermore, Fabregas has begun to put together a run of games where the Spaniard looked like his old self. His vision appears to be back, along with his deadly ability to pick out his teammates.
Couple this return to form with that of Diego Costa’s rediscovered ability to finish, and now Chelsea are beginning to look deadly yet again. Perhaps it is a change in manager, or perhaps it just took some time to recover, but the West Londoners are beginning to look like their old selves.
West Brom enter the match following a 2-2 draw with Bristol City and a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City. According to BBC Sport, West Brom pair Jonas Olsson and Victor Anichebe are likely to be ruled out for the third successive game because of hamstring injuries.
Chelsea will see Loic Remy re-enter the picture following a calf injury. However, Falcao and Hazard are still out with injury.
The Blues would do well to add three more points to their tally and continue their climb up the table. Look for Diego Costa to get on the scoresheet, continuing his run of good form.
