Olivier Giroud could be heading across London in back-to-back January transfer windows, if a report in the Mirror proves to be accurate – with West Ham United eyeing up a shocking move for the French World Cup winner.
With less than a year left on his current Chelsea contract, the Blues have a big decision to make under Maurizio Sarri – do they cash-in this January or tie up the experienced 32-year old striker to extended contract?
The report in the Mirror says that West Ham made a ‘tentative’ approach for Olivier Giroud this past January before leaving Arsenal to Stamford Bridge, but the striker flat out rejected any advances knowing he could make potentially one last big move.
However, West Ham will feel better positioned having spent big in the summer and boasting a Premier League winning manager in Manuel Pellegrini – who could make Giroud a focal point of the Hammers attack.
This season Olivier Giroud has seen plenty of first team action, having replaced Alvaro Morata in the Premier League starting XI – however the Spaniard has started to score again and Chelsea reportedly eyeing up Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek.
Blues fans have taken to Giroud leading the line and the Frenchman made some big game impacts in the second half of last season, ultimately helping the club to win the FA Cup against Manchester United in May.
The speculation could intensify should West Ham decide not to offer their own target man Andy Carroll a new deal – whos contract also expires in the summer of 2019.
