Antonio Conte has revealed why he thinks Chelsea haven’t retained the Premier League title this year (via The Standard).
It’s fair to say that it has been a disappointing season at Chelsea, in the Premier League at least.
The vast majority of signings made in the last 12 months have failed to live up to their billing with the Blues lying in fifth place in the table.
Manchester City, meanwhile, have steamrolled the Premier League title just a year after the Blues did the same. Now, Antonio Conte has revealed why he thinks that is.
“This season we have dropped many points,” Conte said.
“Our first problem this season is that we have not been so clinical. If you want to win, you have to score. If you don’t take your chances, the result stays in the balance until the end.
“I remember, for example, our most recent game against West Ham, we dropped two points of vital importance for us. We were winning the game and we created a lot of chances to score but we kept the result at only 1-0 and at the end they scored and drew.”
Failing to hold onto leads and seeing out matches has been a big problem for Chelsea this season. The Blues haven’t scored many goals and seem incapable of keeping hold of the advantage when they do. It’s going to be an important summer.
