Probably feeling left out of the recent loan exodus at Stamford Bridge, Shaun Cummings this afternoon joined West Bromwich Albion on loan for a month. He becomes the eleventh different youngster to be loaned out this season.

The move is only initially for the short term and comes as regular Baggies right-back Gianni Zuiverloon is injured. Needing a quick solution, manager Roberto Di Matteo and assistant Eddie Newton went for Shaun, knowing him from his season on loan at MK Dons last campaign. He played mainly on the left side at Stadium MK but is usually a right-back these days, having converted from a striker a few years ago. He goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s match against Peterborough, and it’s a big move for him.

He’s in his last year of his Chelsea contract and has played at League One level, impressing early on but fading as the season progressed. Stepping up a level will show what he can do at this level, and perhaps earn himself a longer deal at a club with returning to the Premier League top of their agenda.
