Speaking to GOAL, the newly-retired Blues legend Didier Drogba has urged on Eden Hazard to sign a new contract at the club – following N’Golo Kante’s extension.
“He has to be the next one to sign.”
Didier Drogba also was reported to have given Eden Hazard the mantle of ‘Prince of Stamford Bridge’ – the Ivorian striker was of course known by fans with his own title of ‘King’.
On Alvaro Morata, Didier Drogba backed the Spaniard striker (again in speaking to GOAL) to become a mainstay goalscorer in west London, and sympathising with how difficult it can be to lead the line amid increasing pressure from media, pundits and fans;
“It’s definitely not easy. It happens to everyone to go through difficult moments. What mostly gets you through that period is the support of the fans. And Chelsea fans have been great to him, giving him all the support.”
“Everyone, including me, was very happy when he started scoring again. He’s a really nice guy, and most importantly a great striker. You don’t play for Juventus and Real Madrid if you’re good enough, and I think he’s great.”
While at Chelsea Didier Drogba netted 164 goals for the club, while also chipping in with 75 assists. Silverware was never far away during the striker’s tenure in west London, winning the Champions League, League Cup (three times), FA Cup (four times), and Premier League title (four times).
