As the Chelsea party arrive in Austria an old friend might be returning. Didier Drogba could be back at the club in a coaching role if the summer’s most persistent rumble is to be believed. Watch this space; or rather update your twitter you’ll read it there first.
Kenneth Omeruo is going to Middlesbrough for a whole year, after a successful World Cup he probably hoped for a Premiership call but the Smogs are our unofficial feeder club at the moment.
Excellent news follows: Steven Gerrard has removed a huge obstacle from the England midfield by resigning. Gerrard has never played well for England, preferring instead to run around a lot and hit 45-yard diagonal balls. He was off the pace, ineffectual and accident-prone at the World Cup but Roy stuck with him.
In Austria Diego Costa and Cesc Fábregas both joined the group for the first time. Gary Cahill, Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta also rejoined for light training in the evening’s pouring rain.

The disabled fans abused in Paris have won their case. Sections of PSG’s ground will be closed for their first Champions League game after Uefa found in our favour. It is the first time abuse directed at the disabled has been punished in this way.
Abusing disabled supporters has to be the lowest thing we have ever encountered in football. At least if it goes off with a crowd or West Ham try to take the Shed – you’ll need a long memory for that – then everyone involved can defend themselves. Spitting at and throwing things at people in wheelchairs is absurd.
Filipe Luis will wear the number 3 on his back this season while Kurt Zouma will wear 5.
Meanwhile Mario Pasalic will play in Spain’s top division with Elche. The club only just scraped the relegation fight last season so things should be interesting for our new Croatian midfielder.

Wednesday 23 July
Wolfsberger AC 1:1 Chelsea
The host came into this match with their season underway (a 4-1 home win in their opener) so this was extremely good experience for the young squad we have on tour.
New signing Filipe Luis was the only new face on show after the others joined only on Monday. Jose gave starts to Lewis Baker, Isaiah Brown and Patrick Bamford. That this would be a more competitive night than the other friendlies was clear from the whistle as we struggled to make headway. Bamford and Brown had our only two half-chances but neither could score.
Jose made only one change at the break as Jeremie Boga came on for Lewis Baker and Wolfsberger scored when a lineman – possibly Russian – adjudged the ball over the line from a De Oliveira Silvio header that Cech pushed onto the bar. 1-0. Petr came through the game well and Mourinho declared himself happy with the problem of fitting both Cech and Courtois into his squad.
The equalizer came when Boga latched on to an Ivanovic through ball to finish calmly. 1-1.
And, no, we are not going to be calling Wolfsberger RZ Pellets because the French use those to cure haemorrhoids.

Frank Lampard has officially joined New York City FC after a summer of hints and rumours.
Frank is now 36 and his contribution to our most successful seasons cannot be overestimated. Some may grumble that NYFC are a Manchester City off shoot but come on, Frank gave his all for ten years he deserves a relaxed retirement in a fantastic city.
Lucas Piazon will play next season in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt, The young Brazilian has been out to Vitesse where he showed fluctuating form an the German league will be a big new challenge.

Friday 25 July
Didier Drogba is actually back. A one-year contract in his pocket Didier has been brought in to terrorise defences and coach the younger strikers.
Patrick van Aanholt will fulfil his potential at Sunderland after the 23-year-old Dutch international signed a four-year deal for the usual undisclosed fee of about £2m. Patrick was a star from the moment we got him but with Ashley Cole ahead of all the left-backs he didn’t really get a look in. On loan at Vitesse he mostly impressed and will shine with Guy Poyet.

We have been booked to play in a disaster relief tournament in Turkey on Friday 8 August when we will play two 45-minute games against Besiktas and Fenerbahce. The matches are to support the victims and families of the Soma mine explosion in May.

Sunday 27 July
Olimpija Ljubljana 1:2 Chelsea
Diego Costa and Kurt Zouma both scored to rescue the defence from an embarrassing slip against well-honed opposition.
Diego Costa’s first goal in a blue shirt was set up by a simple but cutting through ball from Cesc Fábregas. The midfielder was the shining light of the first-half for Chelsea and looked ready from his first touch.
The first-half was a struggle with only half chances. Zouma thrashed a great volley goalward but it was beaten away.
We fell behind with a but of sleepy play to give away possession but the finish on the volley flew into the top corner. 1-0.
Jose made a few changes at the half and within ten minutes Fabregas threaded the ball through their defence and Costa thrashed it home. 1-1.
Kurt Zouma’s first for the club came just after the hour when a short corner found its way to Fernando Torres and Kurt was on hand to bundle in the rebound from his shot. 1-2.
Trying to keep the scoreline respectable the referee chalked off Ivanovic’s effort moments later and the least said about Fernando’s miss from Nathan Ake’s cross the better. It is still pre-season and they are all finding their stamina and touch after a busy summer.
A word for Matej Delac who made his debut in a blue shirt. The young Croat has racked up 70 appearances for seven clubs in five fruitless years since signing from Inter Zapresic in 2009. We hope he now can find some consistency and a settled home.
Afterwards Jose confirmed that Nathan Ake and Andreas Christensen would be drafted into the first-team squad and Izzy Brown, Jeremie Boga and Dominic Solanke would all train with the team but also play at U21.
He said old aspirants like Bamford and Chalobah would be loaned out.
