In an incredible range of quotes, former striker Diego Costa has revealed that he all but regrets his move to Chelsea in 2014, despite spending four hugely successful seasons with the Blues.
Things ended pretty badly between Costa and then manager Antonio Conte, with the Italian letting the Spaniard know he was no longer needed via text message that there was no future for him at Chelsea.
The quotes come from Spanish news source Marca via the Metro in an interview that hardly holds back on his feelings about the Blues;
‘It was a very bad moment, but it wasn’t my fault,’ Costa revealed regarding the break down that led to him moving to Atletico Madrid.
‘People said things, but time puts everything in its place; look where the coach is, look at Conte.’
‘I was wrong going to Chelsea, because of their way of dealing with things. Diego Simeone is a direct coach, and when he doesn’t love you, it’s clear and he shows it.’
‘At Chelsea it was the opposite.’
‘I had the option of returning to Atleti and when Chelsea told me to go back to training with the reserves, I was clear that I was going back to Atletico, even though there were other offers.’
Diego Costa also spoke up (again to Marca via CaughtOffside) on the one player he would bring to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea, but admitted he has now say in making such a transfer come to fruition;
‘If I could take Cesc, I would take him.’
‘I had a great connection with him. He gave me life, but I didn’t mention anything to the coach (Diego Simeone).’
Despite the animosity towards Chelsea, the striker wracked up two Premier League titles and a League Cup, as well as a haul of 58 goals and 24 assists in 120 appearances.
