The newest name to be linked to a Chelsea switch is USA international and Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, who still has two years left on his remaining contract with the Bundesliga side.
The Mirror report that Maurizio Sarri’s side are indeed in-talks with Dortmund over the transfer for the 19-year old who already has 21 caps and nine senior goals for the United States of America senior side.
Liverpool are also in the conversation according to the Mirror, but as of right now it’s Chelsea are pushing the move and will likely have to stump up a figure in the region of £65 million to secure Christian Pulisic before the transfer deadline.
Christian Pulisic has been on the radar of Europe’s top clubs since breaking onto the scene with the German club, so far going on to make 70 Bundesliga appearances – assisting 14 and scoring nine times, while lifting the German Cup on one occasion.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will likely be monitoring the situation if the Blues escalate their push to sign the American and will likely rival their rivals for a player that has his whole career ahead of him.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be fearful of letting Pulisic’s contract go down to just one year and see his price-tag decrease as a result, so the feeling is that the former Bundesliga champions could now cash-in and reinvest at the 19-year old’s maximum value – £65 million.
There appears to be a chance that Christian Pulisic will even sign a new contract to stay at Dortmund, but the Mirror do go on to say that those talks are ‘stuttering’ and the club’s stance could quickly change should Liverpool or Chelsea firm up their interests.
Chelsea have only signed Jorginho from Napoli and Robert Green on a free, while Liverpool have spent close to £200 million on four big name signings including goalkeeper Alisson from Roma and Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
