Chelsea fans take a deep breathe – Spanish news source Marca are saying that Eden Hazard is set to reject the Blues’ massive contract offer of £340,000-a-week with the lure of Champions League football and a potential ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid this summer (via The Express).
There had been some noises around the potential move to Real Madrid that with Eden Hazard’s footballing hero Zinedine Zidane departing the club, that perhaps the attraction had faded somewhat. However, the subsequent lack of movement on the part of Chelsea in terms of solving the manager situation as well as absolutely no transfer incomings could have worried Eden Hazard.
Hazard has already shone at this World Cup, scoring twice and assisting one in just two games for Belgium and is likely to have plenty more opportunities to add to his tally after qualifying from their group with England. No doubt clubs like Real Madrid are watching on intently with the target of adding top talent to their squad in order to return to the top of the La Liga table next season.
So much uncertainty around Chelsea at the moment has frustrated fans and that frustration is likely shared by an obvious world class talent like the 27-year old Eden Hazard who has yet to win European silverware. It’s perhaps fair to say that these next couple of years will be key prime playing years for the Belgian and playing at the very highest level in European competition has to be a criteria that is being met.
Around a week ago Hazard told L’Equipe (via talkSPORT) that a move to Real Madrid could be on this summer;
“If they want to buy me they know what they need to do. I don’t want to go there just for the sake of it. There needs to be a project.”
“There is still a project at Chelsea. If I have a good World Cup, things will become easier.”
