It’s always difficult when you have older brothers, they bully you, get you in trouble and just generally hurt you. But when you are a professional footballer and your bother just happens to be one of the best young footballers in the world at the moment, and has just been the subject of a big money move to European Champions Chelsea, you must surely wonder how on earth you are going to get ANY of the lime light?
Well, luckily for 19-year old Thorgan, he too has some pretty decent talent and has already began showing that since being registered as a Chelsea player, apparently.
He signed for Chelsea for some small change in Roman’s pocket this summer, whilst the big names were rolling in. Very much an unknown article in world football, he was only known as Eden’s younger brother. But when you are a Hazard, luckily for us, footballing talent pulses through your vain’s.
After signing for Chelsea, Thorgan almost immediately went on loan back to his home country, joining Jupiler League side Zulte-Waregem. Who? Yes thats what I said, but it’s a good move for him and for us, he’s only 19, this is the perfect chance to get first team competitive experience in order for him to succeed at Chelsea.
So how’s he been doing? It’s early stages yet but I can confirm, he has already been impressing pundits. Belgian Football writer and expert John Chapman had this to say about what he has seen so far this season “He’s started well, looked impressive in central/wide midfield”. And this is coming from a man who had been rather skeptical about Thorgan before he joined us.
He made his debut for Waregem in mid-September in a 1-0 win over Leuven and played again in a close 3-2 loss against Anderlect. But according to reports it was his next match against Lierse when he really stood up and shone, he was switched from central midfield to out wide on the left and he was very impressive. Hazard looked dangerous and sharp, setting up two goals in a 4-1 victory away from home.
He played a full 90 minutes in all three games and Waregem supporters have already heaped praise on the young Hazard, recently giving him a 9/10 rating for his most recent match.
This provides exciting reading for all Chelsea supporters, with one absolute Hazard gem on our hands, it looks like his younger brother is quickly walking in the same strides.
