Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini is looking to make a move to a top club in the Premier League and it seems that Chelsea may be that home. Fellaini has made his intentions known that he wants to play Champions League football and would like to move over to Chelsea by next season.
Rumors about Fellaini moved over to Stamford Bridge have been swirling for a while and the temptation to play for one of the elite teams in the Premier League certainly has it’s own appeal. The 25-year-old has been with Everton since 2008 and has excelled during his time there.
When asked about a move to Chelsea, Fellaini told The Daily Mirror “Am I interested in Chelsea? It’s normal, right? I’ve never played in the Champions League.”
“I’m happy here, I know everyone, I get along with my team-mates. It’s my home. On the other hand, I also want to take the next step. Fate will decide.”
If Chelsea is interested in Fellaini, they are going to have to cough up some of their EPL sponsorship funds in order to get the deal done. As the midfielder pointed out, “Everton paid £20million and do not want to sell me for nothing. If a big club wants me, they will have to pay the price.”
Fellaini has had an impressive season so far. In 22 Premier League matches, he has scored 10 times and has 3 assists. He also had a goal and two assists in the FA Cup. Everton’s chances of making the Premier League are long at best as they currently sit 6th in the Premier League and 6points behind Tottenham for fourth. The Europa League may even be out of reach for them as they are 5 points behind Arsenal for 5th.
Chelsea on the other hand may be battling for a spot in the Champions League right up to the end of the season. Only 2 points separate Arsenal and Chelsea at present. In addition, Chelsea looks to have the tougher schedule to close out the season with both Arsenal and Tottenham mostly playing clubs in the bottom half of the table.
