Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was present on Thursday as England thrashed Montenegro 7-0 at Wembley, be it for the occasion of the country’s 1000th game, a number of his Blues players in-action and possibly to cast his eye over a heavily-linked left-back.
Man of the match on the night Ben Chilwell has linked to a Chelsea transfer for a while now, and if it wasn’t for their transfer ban, a bid may have already materialised – much the gain of Leicester City who are reaping the benefits.
However, Chelsea’s manager took to Instagram and many eagle-eyed followers were quick to point out that Frank Lampard ‘liked’ a post on Ben Chilwell’s personal account – the left-back showing off his MOTM award (via the Metro – also providing an image of the ‘Like’ by Lampard).
Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori were also quick to comment on the 22-year-old’s post.
After all, this is the way we deal with transfer news and rumours in 2019, right?
Chelsea have not found a settled left-back this season, with the jury out on both Emerson and Marcos Alonso, so it would seem quite likely that Lampard and the the club will target a first-choice replacement when their transfer ban is lifted – be it in January or next summer.
A move for the young England left-back would make perfect sense for Chelsea with their current crop of English youngsters starring on a weekly basis – it certainly wouldn’t hurt the chances of the national team should more of the Three Lions squad be playing together week-in-week-out.
