Newcastle United came to the bridge looking to repeat their famous win of last season, too bad this isn’t the bridge anymore it’s the Garden of Eden. Early on the game was dull until Hazard showed a glimpse of his talent by lashing on to what seemed to be a lost cause and bursting down the right flank to play in Torres who lost the ball.
Hazard continued to show his pace and trickery flying by the Newcastle defense and unleashing shots. However the game was still a bit cagy until the 20th minute when Torres used his pace to get by Anita who took him down in the box and conceded a penalty. Hazard coolly stepped up and slotted the penalty in the side netting, was there ever any doubt?
Chelsea went on to control the game from then on and were rewarded in the 46th minute from a lovely 1-2 play with Torres and Hazard. Torres toe poked in a lovely shot and continues to prove that he is finally on form.
As the second half started Chelsea took their foot of the gas pedal a bit trying to secure the three points realizing that they had the super cup on Friday and their job to go to of the table was half done.
In The 58th minute a rare misplayed pass from Mikel led to a Cabaye pass to Cisse whose shot was saved by Cech. Torres continued to look lively as he was showing his bag of tricks with a lovely rabona pass attempt. Mata was subbed of for Ramires in the 66th minute as RDM continues to monitor the little Spaniards minutes.
The game was done and dusted after that point with Luiz getting into a nasty challenge with Ba but was fine and Lampard coming on for Meireles late.
Overall it was not a great display but a good display from the boys in blue. They have picked up 6 points that we did not get last year (Wigan/Newcastle) the interchange from Hazard and Mata is still a beauty to watch and now Hazard has formed a lovely partnership with Torres who will love his new teammate’s service. With Moses, Azpilicueta and possibly Hulk coming in Chelsea are just getting started.
