In quotes carried by the Independent ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, assistant boss Gianfranco Zola was quizzed on potential striker target Callum Wilson – and he certainly fuelled the transfer speculation.

Callum Wilson is likely to line-up for the Cherries against the Blues knowing another eye-catching display will only intensify talk he will be on the opposite side when the January transfer window closes.

I’m sure there are a lot of players linked with us. Certainly Callum Wilson is doing well for his club and is of interest not only of us but for many,” Zola confirmed there is interest from Chelsea along with other rivals for the 26-year old, via the Independent.

He’s strong, fast, and he sees the goal. I like because he’s quick, but also strong in the air, which is a very important quality.”

But I don’t want to go too much into it. He’s doing very well. I’m pleased for him. He has a lot of qualities that can take him a long way.”

With Eden Hazard now deployed as the club’s number one attacking threat, Maurizio Sarri and Zola will know they will need further firepower the longer the season goes on and if the club are to be a major player for silverware and Champions League qualification.

Gianfranco Zola also admitted that there is a doubt over playing the Belgian on Wednesday, due to a foot injury – further highlighting the need for the club to bring in more goal scoring prowess.

Hazard is one of our best players, so to have him available is a big deal, but we don’t want to compromise anything.”
