Stumbling, spluttering, nervous but spirited and improving, Chelsea travel to the home of the bottom club, Wolves, on Wednesday night. This match will be the turning point of our recent slump and see the Champions return to winning ways, IF, Carlo plays the 4-4-2, we are all craving.

I received a lot of feedback, following a recent article, asking for Mikel to be dropped. Obviously an injury has kept him out but we do look a better team without him! I actually like Mikel, anyone that Mourinho calls ‘pure gold’ must be a good player, but he needed to be dropped. He was becoming complacent, was slow on the ball, not forward facing and was caught too often in possession. A rest will do him good and, at 23 years of age, he still has time on his side.

I still believe we need to play 4-4-2, especially away from the Bridge. We are playing with a very deep back four, this is because we lack pace at the back. The current midfield trio are then coming deep to collect the ball, leaving a big gap to the front three. In turn the front three are coming deep, to collect the ball, with their back to goal, so they play the ball back which is then played quickly forward, usually to the wing, by which time there is no-one in the middle.

Playing 4-4-2 will help us link up better. I am not saying stick with it, forever, but we need to build confidence. Ivanovic will add pace, at the back, against Wolves, so we need to play with a higher line. Essien and Lamps can run the show in the middle, allowing Malouda and Ramires to cover, when necessary, for the forward forays of Bosingwa and AC. We need Drogba and Anelka playing in parts of the field that will hurt the opposition.

Wolves have had a turbulent season, so far, with a win at Anfield, followed by a defeat at West Ham, most recently. They will be full of spirit and will be really up, for the visit of the Champions, but Chelsea will win, on a crucial night, when Man City visit the Emirates.

Carlo, remember 4-4-2, you won the Champions League playing that way, we need confidence and a good win, in the Wolves Lair, will be the kick-start to the return of  those halcyon days of late August.
