David Luiz Moreira Marinho has signed for Chelsea Football Club from Benfica on a five and half year deal for an undisclosed fee rumored to be in the value of £21million.

After a long night of protracted negotiations between the two clubs, Luiz was finally confirmed as a Blue alongside new signing Fernando Torres just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut.

A long-term target for Chelsea, Luiz 23, made 80 appearances for the Portuguese champions, scoring 4 goals and remarkably missing only a single fixture during last season’s campaign winning the league title, securing Champions League football and making UEFA.com’s team of the year.

Luiz joined Benfica from Esporte Clube Vitoria in Bahia where he made 47 appearances before heading to Portugal in 2007.

Renowned not only for his distinctive hairstyle but also for his skill and composure on the ball as well as tough tackling leadership, Luiz links up with former club-mate and international teammate Ramires and makes up the trio of Brazilian’s in SW6 with defensive partner Alex.

Luiz has so far gained 4 caps for Brazil after making his debut in the 2-0 victory over the USA last year.
