Chelsea continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against WAC RZ Pellets.
Jeremie Boga’s strike just six minutes from time ensured the Blues avoided their first defeat of pre-season.
Jose Mourinho was able to field every outfield member of his matchday squad, giving vital minutes to the combination of first team regulars and youngsters.
Izzy Brown passed up the opportunity to give Chelsea the lead in the first half. But it was the home side who took the lead shortly after the start of the second half. And it came in somewhat controversial manner. De Oliveira Silvio directed the ball towards goal from the header and it was pushed up onto the bar by Petr Cech, who made his return after shoulder surgery. The ball was cleared and play continued, but the linesman had his flag up and ruled that the ball had crossed the line.
In typical style, John Terry intervened to stop RZ Pellets doubling their lead. The Austrians were comfortable for the remainder of the match, but Boga popped up with a superb goal six minutes from time.
Branislav Ivanovic moved the ball into Boga’s path from the right-hand side. The Frenchman took it in his stride, shrugged off the challenge and flicked it past the keeper.
There was a first team debut for new signing Filipe Luis, but the Spanish contingent of Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa didn’t feature after only linking up with the squad on Monday.
