Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen’s in-demand winger Leon Bailey was tipped for money-spinning move in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea among some of Europe’s elite in seeking to sign the Jamaican.
Along with the Blues, rivals Manchester United and City, along with Liverpool have all been thwarted in their pursuit of the 21-year old.
Chelsea have been scouting Leon Bailey since his early teens according to the player himself, and showed real interest again in the summer transfer window, before seeing the winger commit his future to Leverkusen.
Leon Bailey opened up in a revealing quotes, originally in Four Four Two via the Daily Star;
Chelsea have been interested in me since I was maybe 14 or 15, but as a young player you want to start on a normal level and not just go there because of the name of the club.”
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool – a lot of clubs were interested. But the most important thing as a pro is taking things a step at a time and not rushing to the top too quickly. Because once you get there, where do you go next?
My focus isn’t really on moving anywhere yet. I’m just about what’s happening right now rather than what could happen in the future. I’m still learning.”
Having signed a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen in August until 2023, if any club is to tempt the Bundesliga side to part with the Jamaican international in the foreseeable future, it will all but certainly come at a huge cost.
