So thats big Didier Drogba and now Romelu Lukaku gone this summer, two out and out strikers leaving a notice-able hole in the attacking line up. Are Chelsea about to rely on Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge as the two front men this season? Or add Victor Moses to the mix who can play up top, is that going to be enough?
No, is the answer to that. Torres will re-discover his scoring touch I am sure of that, he’s already improved immensely at the tail end of last season and even getting the golden boot in the Euro’s, but there is no way we can rely on Torres alone to lead the line next season.
Up steps Daniel Sturridge, yes he has had a reasonable Olympics playing in the striker role and that’s where he claims he is best, but again he has not had enough experience playing there, especially not for Chelsea. He’s also been critisised for being too greedy, but does have an eye for goal. I still wouldn’t be prepared to rely on these two players as Chelsea’s two main men to lead the line this season and neither will the Chelsea board.
They have something up their sleeves, I am very confident that Chelsea will be buying another striker and I am even more confident that it will be Hulk or Edinson Cavani. Yes Chelsea have stalled on negotiations with Porto for Hulk unless Porto lower their fee for the Brazilian, which I think they will and like I’ve said all along this could be a deadline day signing.
Failing that or even if Chelsea decide to drop Hulk altogether, which they are just as likely to do, then they now have the option of Edinson Cavani who has been offered to them for a cut price by Napoli, who want Raul Meireles as part of the deal. Chelsea are more than tempted to pursue this and are on the verge of making an official move.
So will it be Hulk or Cavani? Personally I’d be happy with either of them, but in terms of getting goals, it has to be Edinson Cavani, a real target man who is good in the air as well as with the ball at feet.
Your thoughts? Who do you want to see lead our line? Please don’t say Falcao as that ship floated a long time ago!
