Spanish news source AS are reporting that both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will make late moves in the Spanish transfer window for Chelsea’s left-back Marcos Alonso.
The 27-year old has already proven a key figure in manager Maurizio Sarri’s first team plans this season, scoring a 81st minute free-kick winner last weekend against London rivals Arsenal.
AS state that Marcos Alonso would be available for around €30 million – a rather small sum considering the player’s current importance the squad, especially so with the Blues being unable to replace the Spaniard until at least January.
Real Madrid’s link to Alonso will be alarming to Blues fans, especially with the fact that the Spaniard came through the academy system at the current Champions League holders. Having failed to make the grade at Real early on his career, Alonso took the road to Chelsea via Bolton and Fiorentina – ultimately earning a move to west London in 2016.
Atletico Madrid have only come into contention for Alonso since it’s emerged that PSG are in for Filipe Luis, which would leave Diego Simeone light in the left side of defence. As the Spanish side look to fend off the Parisian giants’ advances, if he is to go, then Alonso could very well come into play.
Alonso will know that he is a key figure under Maurizio Sarri at the moment, and having started the season on-fire, he may just see the benefit of seeing out this season before waiting on future advances of his boyhood club or Atletico’s.
With Marcelo operating in the same position at Real Madrid, the 27-year old would be wise to be cautious about a move now and potentially find himself on the bench.
