The news that probably all Chelsea fans had hoped for is close to coming to fruition, with the Evening Standard reporting the club have reached a major breakthrough in contract talks with Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The England international back in January looked more certain to leave than stay, with Bayern Munich the favourites to capture the winger.

Now multiple reports are picking up that Chelsea have reached a breakthrough in talks with the 18-year-old and that he will put pen to paper on a five-year contract, like to be around £100,000-a-week.

While a deal is all agreed in principle, it’s said that Chelsea will likely wait to make an announcement on Callum Hudson-Odoi until after Eden Hazard’s likely departure – softening the blow somewhat with some good news.

Increased game-time in the second half of the season, before injury put the breaks on, has probably played a big part in Hudson-Odoi’s decision.

No doubt he has probably been given assurances that whoever is manager next season will make a focal point of the squad in all competitions.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s existing contract runs out in 2020, so this news will be a huge boost to the club and the loyal Blues fans, especially so with a transfer ban limiting what the club can do until next year.
