Speculative reports from several sources in the UK say that Juan Mata is set to leave Chelsea during the January transfer window to join mid table Manchester United.
Juan is a firm favourite with the Stamford Bridge faithful, but has found it hard to secure first team football since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. With the Brazil World Cup just around the corner, Juan needs first team football to help secure his place in the Spanish national side.
Rafa Benitez saw Juan as the first choice No 10 for the Blues, but he blatantly missed that Oscar was just as good if not better. Especially in terms of closing down the opposition and quickening up the passing and movement upfront. The acquisition and the ever improving form of Brazilian Willian has virtually ruled out any inclusion of Mata in one of the attacking midfield roles.
Whilst it would be sad to see Juan leave he deserves first team football. It must be hurting him to sit out so many games.
Ideally it would be best to see Mata back in Europe, however if the right money is available, then for his sake he must make the move. With reports of Manchester United bidding up to £40 million, I think Roman should take it.
