Confusion is rife over whether or not Robbie Keane will join Chelsea. Reports that a fee of £12 million had been agreed have since been denied.

Ranieri remains silent while the speculation flies around. It’s left to Colin Hutchinson, Ken Bates premier ‘yes’ man, to handle negotiations. Who decides who Chelsea try to buy, the manager or the chairman? If the gaffer could speak English we might find out.

It was good to see Jon Harley back in the team today. Amazingly he was accompanied by another three Englishmen – Wise, Morris and Terry. The latter kept Frank Leboeuf out of the side but why Dennis was played wide right, after the abysmal defeat at Charlton, was a mystery.

There were few incidents in the first half but when ‘Boro scored in the second it was no surprise to the travelling support. So what did Ranieri do to turn the game? He took off Chelsea’s best player, Gianfranco Zola.

To lose against a team who are bottom of the table is unforgivable. Vialli got five games this season before being knifed in the back by Bates. How many tactically inept away performances must we witness under Ranieri before Chelsea employ a proper manager?
