With summer signings at Chelsea yet to materialise and Michael Essien due to miss a large chunk of the season, it seems that Andre Villas-Boas will be delving into the transfer market before long and the bookies’ odds give a great indication of who should be playing at Stamford Bridge next season.
Luka Modric remains the most likely Chelsea summer signing according to the bookies although the odds on that transfer happening are drifting. He is now 6/5 to join Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes. The reason those odds are drifting could be the fact that Chelsea seem to be in for Palermo’s Argentinean international Javier Pastore. It seems unlikely Chelsea would sign both and Pastore is rated at just 6/4 to become a Chelsea signing this summer.
The most likely striker signing according to the bookies is Falcao from Villas-Boas’ former club Porto but he has recently signed a new contract at the Portuguese club. That new contract might just mean Porto get more money for him as 7/4 seems very short for that transfer to happen. It is worth noting that the bookies are not offering odds on Romelu Lukaku signing and that looks an almost certainty currently.
Another former Porto player who is being strongly linked with Chelsea is Jose Moutinho but the signings of either Modric or Pastore would cast doubt over this deal going through. The bookies have pushed this transfer out to 9/2 because of the emergence of Pastore as a target and it is not hard to see Moutinho staying put at Porto for another season.
Hulk is yet another Porto player being linked but he looks unlikely, he is available at 7/1 which puts him behind Neymar in the pecking order. Neymar has been a long time target for Chelsea but several other clubs are now interested in one of the hottest properties in world football and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
