Chelsea have been handed a massive price tag by Napoli for a long-term defensive target, Kalidou Koulibaly (via The Express).
One thing which is looking clear at Chelsea this season is the need for defensive reinforcements.
John Terry was always going to be a loss but the back three last season was hugely impressive. The shine seems to have somewhat come off the backline after keeping just four clean sheets in 12 matches.
The players aren’t getting any younger. David Luiz and Gary Cahill are both in their thirties which means that replacements will need to come in soon.
Anthony Rudiger arrived in the summer but the long-term target has always rumoured to have been Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Napoli defender is one of the best in his position in the world and now, reports in Italy suggest that the Serie A side have told clubs that they would be willing to accept an offer between €60-70 million.
It’s a huge sum of money but in this current transfer climate, would prove a sound investment for a player who could realistically play at the top level for another decade. Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the most impressive parts of this hugely impressive Napoli side and would strengthen Chelsea a lot.
