Chelsea have a clear pathway to bring the now experienced Dutch international and Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake back to Stamford Bridge this month for an pre-agreed £40 million fee – but the club find themselves having to put a deal on ice, for now.
A report in the Sun claims that Chelsea have to find a club that will take Andreas Christensen off their hands first, and that’s proving tricky considering the Danish defender is on an £80,000-a-week salary. The 23-year-old wants a club to at least match and ideally improve his current earnings in west London.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is seemingly favouring Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori over Andreas Christensen, so it’s not surprising that the Dane will be the man to make way for the ‘homecoming’ of Nathan Ake.
AC Milan are said to be the club most interested to sign Christensen, but the two clubs are some way off their valuation and agreed transfer terms – the Italian giant’s would prefer a loan for the rest of the season, then an option to buy.
With Nathan Ake returning from an injury within the next two weeks, it could be that this will be a transfer that could happen in the final week of the January window – with the Blues banking on clubs needing a new defender to push for an acceptable deal for Andreas Christensen closer to the deadline on January 31st.
