Good Afternoon Blues and welcome to Saturday’s game day version of News Updates, where we take a look at the latest Chelsea news, transfer rumours and anything else surrounding the club.
Well in the aftermath of the departure once again of Jose Mourinho, Chelsea players and staff alike to try continue as business as usual when they face Sunderland today in what can only realistically be described as a relegation battle as the reigning champions sit just one point off the relegation zone and a win is vital, probably the most vital 3 points of this season so far.
As supporters threaten to give a bad reception to certain players and backroom staff in their frustrations of losing Mourinho this afternoon, Chairman Bruce Buck has called for fans to move on and back the team. Comments that I can only precipitate.
Buck said ” I can assure you it was not a decision we took lightly, nor was it a spur-of-the-moment decision. Mr Abramovich and the board anguished over it for some time. But the start we have made to the season has come as a major disappointment to the owner, the board and Chelsea fans everywhere, and I think it is fair to say nobody expected us to be in the position we are in”
“Please believe me when I say the decision was made for no reason other than to do what we believe is in the best interests of this club. We will not forget what Jose achieved here during two spells as manager. He has overseen some of our most famous triumphs and we will always have a huge amount of respect for him.”
“There is still a great deal to play for – Premier League points, the FA Cup and the Champions League – and we want to give it everything in all those competitions. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and we are determined as a collective unit to get back to where we should be. We cannot do that without you (the fans) being fully behind us. We need to be together going forward.”
Agree or disagree with Buck’s decision to oust Mourinho, we simply HAVE to back the team today, we have to get behind anyone wearing that blue shirt and offer encouragement, otherwise the possibility of becoming a championship club, could turn to reality.
Finally, according to Standard Sport, who are normally a fairly decent source, Jamie Vardy will be Chelsea’s number one target in January and they are even prepared to offer £30 million for the England striker.
The 28-year old is the top scorer in the Premier League this season and is also likely to lead England’s front line during the Euro’s this summer. Chelsea’s officials are desperate to bring in more fire power in January with Diego Costa not performing and goals being hard to find.
