Chelsea reportedly have their transfer targets ready for this summer, in readiness for their transfer ban to be lifted or suspended, and the Telegraph reports that a £35 million-valued right-back is near the top of that wishlist.
Youcef Atal, an exciting right-back playing at French Ligue 1 side Nice has caught the eye, not just of Chelsea but of European heavyweights such as Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
This past weekend just saw Youcef Atal probably add a few million to his price-tag, as the 22-year-old scored an impressive hat-trick in Nice’s 3-0 league victory, prompting his manager (former Arsenal midfielder) Patrick Vieira to state he is not for sale.
What is likely to have really caught Chelsea scouts attention is that this is Youcef Atal’s first season playing at such a high-level, having only signed for Nice last summer from Belgian club Kortrijk – his adaptability to make such an impact will give hope he can do the same in the Premier League.
Chelsea of course are at a disadvantage to any potential rivals to sign Atal, with the unknown of whether their transfer ban will be suspended or lifted, and still a couple of games of the season to go to clinch Champions League football. Bayern Munich or Atletico have the guarantee of such high-level competition to-offer now.
Signing Atal could bring Cesar Azpilicueta’s future at the club into doubt, but the club appear to want two quality options at right-back.
