cfcuk have announced that Chelsea FC have decided to arrange a special train to convey supporters to the midweek away fixture at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland on Tuesday 18th August.
Full details on how to apply for tickets will be posted on the official club website in due course.
There will be 550 places available so please ensure that you check to see exactly how and when to apply for a ticket.
Although Chelsea supporters gave been used to the club providing free trains, the one for Sunderland will cost £20 per person which, to our minds at least, is still an exceptionally good price.
Our thanks go to Mr Abramovich who subsidised the cost of the train and of course, to those at Stamford Bridge who have put their time and effort into making the arrangements.
Due to the insensitivity of the people who arrange the fixture list – not taking into account the fact that Blues supporters who, with the majority travelling from London, will find the journey difficult – the club acceded to a request from supporters’ representatives.
However, we hope that there will be a good take-up on this offer from Chelsea as future club arranged travel could well rest on the demand for seats.
(The price of the train was a discussion point at the final Fans Forum of last season, we felt that other initiatives such as concessions on 16-21 Year Old Season Tickets took greater priority, and the club made it clear that they need to balance the books somewhere, it was suggested by a fan on the forum that the price of the trains were slightly increased, and this received no objections from anyone on the Forum. )
