French international striker Olivier Giroud had been expected to leave relatively early on in this January transfer window, but with just two days to go a deal to see him leave has seemingly not materialised.

However, a report via Metro is suggesting that arch-rivals Tottenham are to make a late swoop to sign Giroud, in a move that could burn all bridges with Blues fans and further enrage Arsenal fans who would loathe such a deal.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking for a budget option in-attack to fill the gap left by the injured Harry Kane and views Olivier Giroud as a good fit. Chelsea want to sell or risk losing the 33-year-old on a free this summer.

Chelsea are reluctant at this point to sell to direct rival’s Tottenham, say the report, due to doubts surrounding their own injury to striker Tammy Abraham – he’s not set for a long spell on the sidelines, but options up-front are short, and no new arrival before Friday looks imminent.

Tottenham are said to have proposed an 18-month long contract to Olivier Giroud, with a fee likely to be under £10 million.
