Chelsea’s final leg of their mini tour of Germany see the English Champions take on Hamburg this afternoon at the impressive Imtech Arena. A large crowd is expected at the 57,000 capacity stadium where the playing surface will be more akin to what we expect after Sundays quagmire.
Chelsea are expected to field a strong team with Carlo Ancelotti declaring that he expects to start with the same team that will face Manchester United in the domestic curtain raiser on Sunday. It has to be said that our pre-season this year has been eye opening, poor at times and downright shambolic on occasions. However I expect Chelsea to step up a gear today and put together a much more cohesive display with the regular faces coming back in from the start. Ricky Carvalho has openly said that the double training sessions took their toll against Frankfurt however we should see the benefits this afternoon.
Hamburg are a step up from what we have faced so far in pre-season but I expect Chelsea to beat the 7th place team from the Bundesliga last season. More importantly we need to see the boys get back to the movement and speed of passing that destroyed teams last season. With the imminent arrival of Ramires I cannot wait for August 14th and that long road to glory begins today.
