Chelsea head into their first Premier League clash of 2019 carrying six injured players, who are all ruled out of the game at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Olivier Giroud, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Danny Drinkwater have all picked up knocks and that is likely to leave Maurizio Sarri with little option but to keep Eden Hazard out on the wing – Alvaro Morata is expected back to lead the line in the threadbare squad.
CFCnet’s predicted Chelsea line up v Southampton is expected to see the return of Morata who has missed four of the last five Premier League games, and only featured for around 14 minutes in the win at Crystal Palace.
Any temptation to rotate on Wednesday has likely been taken away from Maurizio Sarri due to so many players being ruled out, so expect Willian, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho all to remain in the midfield and attacking positions.
No change in the defence or goalkeeper department will keep continuity and with a home game against Championship side Nottingham Forest at the weekend, the Blues may opt to change things up then, instead of this predicted Chelsea line up v Southampton.
How Chelsea Could Line Up Against Southampton
Goalkeeper: Kepa Arrizabalaga
Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso
Midfield: Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N’Golo Kante
Attack: Willian, Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata
